        Division 2 - Cardigan Res 1 v 4 Felinfach

Despite not hitting top form in this trip down to Cardigan Reserves, Felinfach still had too much firepower for their hosts and comfortably came out 4-1 winners to keep on the heels of the 2nd Division pacesetters. After an even 20 minutes Felinfach upped the tempo in the latter stages of the 1st half when James Davies galloped down the right wing to square the ball perfectly to Lyn Jones to net his 1st goal of the campaign. More good approach work after 40 minutes saw influential centre back Dyfan Evans turn on a sixpence (a large one mind!) just inside the box to curl the ball just inside the right hand post of the Cardigan goal.

Cardigan then started the 2nd half brightly in an efffort to get back into the game and were perhaps a bit unlucky to see themselves go 3-0 down when their excellent goalkeeper could only parry a long range effort and James Davies followed up to set a perfect ball up for Sion Jones to make the game safe. Felinfach were now well in control and were unlucky not to extend their lead when first Richard Brennan lobbed the keeper only to see it bounce up against the bar and cleared away followed by a close range miss from Sion Jones.

To their credit, Cardigan kept going though and deservedly got a goal back with 20 minutes.to go when they headed home a cross from the left hand side. Felinfach kept any further Cardigan attacks to a minimum and got a deserved fourth goal after good work again from Lyn Jones and Gareth Evans saw them set Richard Haywood up for a very fine strike into the top corner from just outside the box.

Overall a good 3 points at a place where it is never easy to get a result and done without really getting out of third gear. Probably the pick of the players today would have been in defence where very few chances were presented to Cardigan, in particular wing backs James Davies and Daniel White and also Dyfan Evans who won everything in the air as well as also getting on the scoresheet fo the first time in 2 years. Next up is the keenly awaited visit of Carno in the Emrys Morgan Cup next weekend. |
